Gas Pipeline Fire In Corpus Christi Shuts Down Interstate

Police shut down traffic along I-37 in both directions after the fire started, but traffic was reopened​ as of 10:20 a.m., the report said.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Emergency Operations Center in Corpus Christi was activated Monday morning after a gas pipeline rupture caused a massive fire, according to KRIS 6 News. The fire started at 8:30 a.m. at Interstate 37 and Buddy Lawrence, and burned for 90 minutes, according to the news report, adding that a second smaller fire in a small building started at 9:30 a.m. According to KRIS 6 News, the City's Reverse Alert said a gas pipeline rupture caused the flames that could be seen for several miles.

Police and fire crews responded to the fire, and police shut down traffic along I-37 in both directions after the fire started, according to KRIS 6 News. Traffic was reopened as of 10:20 a.m, and the Emergency Operations Center was closed by 10:30 a.m., according to the news report.

There were no injuries reported from the fire.
