How Patriotic Are Texans? Study Says Not Very
More than half of U.S. states are more patriotic than Texas, a new study claims.

What things do a patriot make? According to a new study, it's a combination of civic and military engagement, the total number of adults who voted in the 2016 election, the share of AmeriCorps volunteers per capita and much more.
And, based on those metrics, it turns out Texas isn't very patriotic. The study named Texas the No. 31 most patriotic state in the nation.
Perhaps it's the pervasive Texan identity that brings us together not over nationalism but over the fantastic regional accouterments that we can all agree on — from What A Burger to Texas BBQ — or perhaps its Texas' former independence. But either way, the numbers speak for themselves.

In fact, Texas ranked particularly low for lowest percentage of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election, coming in at No. 46 overall.
That shouldn't detract, however, from another superlative that put Texas in the top five. Texas has the fifth highest average number of military enlistees.

To break it down, Texas was ranked No. 12 overall for military engagement and No. 47 overall for civic engagement. That adds up to an overall ranking of 47.82, with 100 being the most patriotic and zero being the least.
