Inmate Escapes From Beaumont Prison By Walking Away: Officials

Federal officials are searching for Elisael Burgos-Vasquez after he reportedly walked away from a Texas prison camp on Sunday.

BEAUMONT, TX — Federal officials are on the lookout for a convicted meth dealer who reportedly walked away from a Texas prison camp on Sunday.

Elisael Burgos-Vasquez, 29, was serving a 14-year sentence for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine when the Federal Bureau of Prisons said he walked away from a satellite prison camp at the Federal Correctional Institution Beaumont, according to KTRK-TV. The camp is a minimum-security facility primarily housing people convicted of white-collar offenses, nonviolent drug crimes and those at the end of their sentences.

It's unknown how Burgos-Vasquez was able to leave the camp, and an internal investigation is being conducted, according to the news station. The prison notified the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI and local law enforcement agencies when his escape was discovered.

Burgos-Vasquez is described as having black hair, brown eyes, standing 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing roughly 185 pounds.
