Texas-Sized Baby Weighing 14 Pounds Born At Arlington Memorial

Ali James Medlock, who was born on Dec. 12 and weighed 14 pounds, 13 ounces, is the biggest baby a doctor has delivered in 30 years.

ARLINGTON, TX -- A Texas woman just gave birth to a boy that is more than you can shake a stick at. The boy, Ali James Medlock, was born Dec. 12 at Arlington Memorial Hospital and measured 21.5 inches long and weighed 14 pounds, 13 ounces, NBC reported. Parents Jennifer and Eric Medlock were told the baby was the biggest their doctor had delivered in his 30 years of practicing medicine.

Most babies weigh between 5 pounds, 8 ounces and 8 pounds, 13 ounces when born, kidshealth.org reported. Larger babies, like Ali Medlock, can have medical problems. Medlock was initially taken to the newborn intensive care unit for a week because his blood sugar and platelets were low, NBC added.

A request for comment has been placed with Jennifer Medlock and this story will be updated once we hear back.
