2 Former HPD Cops Arrested In Illegal Gambling Operation
HPD and Harris County authorities said more than $2.3 million in illegal assets had been seized in the Chinatown area.

HOUSTON, TX — A year-long investigation into an illegal gambling operation in the Chinatown area led to the arrests of two former Houston police officers and 20 other people, all of whom have been charged. Authorities with Harris County and the Houston Police Department held a news conference Wednesday morning to announce the arrests, and that more than $2.3 million in illegal assets had been seized.
"This is an ongoing issue for people in Houston," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. "We know that Chinatown and that the Asian community in general have suffered a series of robberies and violent crimes in their area. And we hope by investing resources in investigations like this that we can make a measurable difference."
Ogg said Larry Nguyen and Huy Lu were HPD officers when they were accused of paying for a luxury car on behalf of a game room owner. If found guilty, each could face anywhere to five years or life in prison. Nguyen and Lu have both resigned.
