Bellaire Officials Encourage Residents To Get Flood Insurance

BELLAIRE, TX — It may not seem like it, but hurricane season is right around the corner. June 1 marks the beginning of the six-month season, and the City of Bellaire and its Office of Emergency Management encourage all residents to purchase flood insurance for their homes and businesses.

This can be done through the National Flood Insurance Program, with more information at www.floodsmart.gov.

The required 30-day wait period starts on the day of purchase. If purchased today, the policy would go into effect on June 1, 2018 — the day hurricane season starts.

Floods are the nation’s most common natural disaster and cause millions of dollars in damage each year. Maintaining a flood insurance policy is an effective way to protect against the cost of flood damage.
