Pollo Tropical Closes Three Houston Locations
Move taken by parent company Fiesta, which also owns Taco Cabana, is part of a national retrenchment.
The Fiesta Restaurant Group, as part of a national strategy, shuttered three Pools Tropical locations in Houston on Monday. The company also closed all Pollo Tropical locations in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Nashville. The restaurant's stores in Pearland and west Houston remain open.
"Fiesta's recent growth initiatives diverted resources from our core markets, and some amount of renewal is required to restore momentum in these markets," Richard Stockinger, CEO and president of Fiesta, said in a statement. "While the decision to close restaurants is never easy, we believe it is vital to focus the company's resources and efforts on markets and locations that have proven successful for our brands."
Fiesta, as of Jan. 1, 2017, operated 177 wholly-owned Pollo Tropical locations and 166 company-owned Taco Cabanas — and plans to reboot the brand later this year, according to the Fiesta "Renewal Plan." As part of the reorganization, five closed Pollo Tropical locations could be reopened as Taco Cabana restaurants.
