Where to Eat in the Houston Area on New Year's Eve: Our Personal List
An Italian institution, a Seabrook Thai treasure, French cuisine, and sushi: This lineup won't steer you wrong.

HOUSTON, TX — It's an annual tradition, saying farewell to the old and toasting the new with family, friends, and loved ones. New Year's Eve festivities are special, and should be, so we've compiled a special list of restaurants in which we'd love to spend some time on the final day of the year.
Don't wait too long to make your reservations, and have a very happy New Year. (Click on the links below for additional details about each establishment, including telephone numbers and addresses.)
Etoile Cuisine et Bar: Ah, French food. Foie gras and loup de mer. If that's to your liking, then Etoile should be on your list. The restaurant is offering a four-course meal on New Year's Eve.

Uchi: Sushi to close out 2016? Why not, and this popular Houston restaurant is one of the best places for it in town. It also has a good wine and cocktail program, so you're sure to find a suitable Champagne for midnight.
State of Grace: Ford Fry and Bobby Matos have a big hit on their hands at this River Oaks hot spot. It's a handsome restaurant: wonderful interiors, the long bar is beautiful, and the food is very good. Enchiladas and a great selection of oysters in one place? Yes. (The bivalve bar here is one of my favorite rooms in Houston.)

Tony's: There'll be two seatings, with dancing and live music at the later seating, so put on your party clothes and prepare to dine in style. Tony Vallone is creating the menu himself, so there'll be some outstanding pasta (and much more).
Helen Greek Food & Wine: This little place has been welcoming crowds since it opened last year, and for good reason. A wine list that would make Zorba happy, food done (almost always) well, and a fun ambiance: it's all here at this taverna.
Hubbell & Hudson Bistro: This Woodlands fixture should be on your rotation, because they pay attention to what's on the plate. Texas quail, well-made salads, and quality steaks are but a few of your options.
Merlion Restaurant: A gem in Seabrook, a locale that could certainly use a few more good restaurants. The service here is of the top-notch variety, and Chef Andrew produces dishes worthy of a visit. This Thai eatery is the real thing. Try the lamb curry, and look for great values on the wine list.
Brasserie 1895: There are two great chefs in the kitchen here, and Brasserie 1895 has transformed the sleepy Friendswood dining scene. The butternut squash and tamales are a must-try, and the foie gras and caramelized endive will change your perceptions. Great hospitality and a homey yet comfortable interior complete the picture
