Police said Schernik fled the scene in a vehicle before being located at his home. He was then taken into custody without incident for booking at the Travis County jail, police added.

"Based on our investigation, it appears the victim and suspect are known to each other and the shooting was a result of an early morning altercation over the suspect remaining at the house," police wrote in a press advisory.
