Deceased Bat Found In Cedar Park Tests Positive For Rabies

A deceased bat found in the area of Lynnwood Trail/Brushy Creek Rd. in Cedar Park, TX has tested positive for rabies.

At this time, there is no known direct human or animal contact with the bat and it is also unclear how long the bat was in the area it was located.

The deceased bat was impounded by Cedar Park Animal Control and transported to the Texas Department of State Health Services where it tested positive for rabies on June 5, 2021.

Rabies is a deadly virus spread to people from the saliva of infected animals. It can cause fever, vomiting, muscle weakness, drooling and convulsions.

We want to take this time to remind you not to touch stray or unknown animals/wildlife. Please make sure your pet’s rabies vaccines are up to date to protect you and your family.

It is extremely important that if you believe you, your pets, or anyone you know has come into contact with one of these animals, whether it is dead or alive, that you contact Animal Control immediately.
