Free Coronavirus Testing Offered In Leander

LEANDER, TX — Free testing designed to detect the presence of COVID-19 will be offered in Leander on Saturday, officials said.

The free testing will be offered by Williamson County Office of Emergency Management in partnership with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and in coordination with the City of Leander, county officials wrote in an emailed advisory.

Testing will be conducted at the Leander Extended Opportunity (LEO) Building located at 300 South West Dr. from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until supplies last. This is a walk-up site that will not require an appointment prior to being tested, officials explained.

People interested in getting tested will be asked to park and line up for their turn. It is important to note that this is a cheek swab test, so people cannot eat, drink, or use tobacco products 20 minutes prior to the test, officials stressed. Those seeking testing also are asked to leave their pets at home, with the exception of service animals, officials said, adding that residents should bring a cell phone for on-site registration.

Those seeking tests also should be aware of potential wait times given the demand for testing. As a result, residents are urged to bring items as a form of shade to cover from the sun, such as a hat or umbrella.
