Leander ISD Will Continue Mask Protocol, Officials Say
Leander ISD will continue its mask enforcement policy for students and employees despite Gov. Abbott's latest order.
LEANDER, TX — Leander ISD will continue its mask enforcement policy for students and employees despite Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's latest executive order, officials said.
The district announced Tuesday in a Tweet it will continue to require all students, staff and visitors to wear masks on district property and at district events.
The decision comes hours after Abbott issued an executive order to reopen Texas at a 100 percent capacity and halt the state's mask mandate. The order will go into effect on March 10.

“Leander ISD will continue to prioritize student, staff and community health by following the guidance of our state and local health agencies as outlined in our current COVID-19 protocols," the school district said. "We will still enforce our existing mask protocols and social distancing requirements."
The district said it will work to slow community spread of COVID-19 and minimize the health risks of in-person learning.
"We will work with health departments and the Texas Education Agency regarding health and safety in our schools. We will adjust when it is safe and appropriate to do so," school district officials said.
Leander ISD serves 225 square miles in several communities including Leander, Cedar Park, and Jonestown in Williamson County, according to the district's website.
Other school districts who are following suit with continuing its mask policy are Round Rock and Leander ISD.
Both districts issued statements Tuesday evening its decision to enforce its existing mask protocols and social distancing requirements.
Pflugerville ISD has yet to announce if it will continue to implement a mask enforcing policy.
