Detectives with the Cedar Park Police Department's organized crime unit began investigating the distribution of fentanyl earlier this year after a number of overdoses occurred in the city and within the region, police said Friday.

Police said they discovered the drug was being distributed by dealers as "illicit prescription pills in the form of oxycodone." During the investigation, police identified several sources of supply.
