Car Plunges Into Dickinson Bayou Killing Driver, Police Said

The driver of a car died when it plunged off the boat ramp and into the murky waters of Dickinson Thursday evening, police said.

DICKINSON, TX — Members of the League City Fire Department dive team have recovered the body of the driver whose car plunged into Dickinson Bayou Thursday evening.

Police were called to the Dickinson Boat Ramp in the 5000 block of Hwy 3 just before 5:30 p.m. amid reports that a car had driven into the bayou, and that the driver was still inside the car.

Dickinson PD and volunteers with the Dickinson Volunteer fire department arrived at the boat ramp and were able to find the car in the bayou.

Officials said that firefighters on the scene tried to extract the victim from inside of the car, but they were able to successfully free the driver.

League City Fire Department Dive Team went into the bayou and were able to get into the car several hours later and removed the driver, police said.

The victim has been identified and at the request of family members, the identity will not be released by Dickinson police.

The victim’s body was taken to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
