Clear Lake Medical Center Rebrands To HCA Houston Healthcare

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center is now known as HCA Houston Healthcare-Clear Lake.

CLEAR LAKE, TX — What's in a name? Mostly likely a lot when it comes to healthcare. On Feb. 1, the sign that led patients in Clear Lake to the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center for a half-century was replaced with a new name and promises for better care.

Todd Caliva, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake said the name change was made to clarify the hospital's relationship with HCA Houston Healthcare, the largest health system in Houston.

"We were already affiliated with this organization, but over the past year or so, began the rebranding process to make it easier for our patients, employees, payers, and more, to connect the dots to the rest of our network," Caliva said.

In Houston, this includes 15 hospitals, nine ambulatory surgery locations, eight free standing emergency departments and the Care Now Urgent Network.

"In short, there will be more visible access points, so regardless of what patients need, they know our HCA Houston Healthcare family has them covered," Caliva added.

Officials with the new HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake along with League City Mayor Pat Hallisey and officials from Webster Mayor Donna Rogers’s office gathered at the hospital to officially launch its new identity.

“Taking the HCA name signals our commitment to be held to the highest standards in the industry,” Caliva said during the ceremony.

Patients will not see a single lapse in quality patient care or services, and the leadership will stay the same, too.

"We’ll continue to serve as a comprehensive community hospital, growing and expanding our services as a Level II trauma facility, a comprehensive stroke facility, a comprehensive cancer center, a chest pain accredited facility, a level IIIb NICU, a world class heart hospital and more," he said. "Under the HCA Houston Healthcare brand, however, we’ll be able to better leverage our scale. Taking this name also signals our commitment to be held to the highest standards in the industry. We have a responsibility, which we take very seriously, to do it justice."

Caliva added that the name change was just the beginning, and announced a list of coming improvements to the hospital.

Some of those include:

  • VIP labor and delivery suites
  • Upgrades to the women’s services department
  • Major construction to the Emergency Department entrance
  • Adding two new Operating Rooms
  • Expansion of the catheter lab, as well as a significant bed expansion.

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center is one of several area hospitals that have either rebrand under HCA Healthcare network, or plan to soon.

Other include: Tomball Regional Medical Center, Houston Northwest Medical Center, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, Park Plaza Hospital and Plaza Specialty Hospital.

“These acquisitions represent a very purposeful commitment to filling what we see as a gap in community healthcare excellence in Houston,” HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division President Troy Villarreal, said in an August 2017.

Every year, HCA Houston Healthcare provides care for more than one million hospital patients, more than 450,000 emergency room patients and delivers one in four births in Houston. It currently employs more than 16,000, including 6,900 nurses.
