Galveston Beaches Under Bacteria Advisory
A dozen places around Galveston, the Bolivar Peninsula and the Texas City Dike showed elevated bacteria levels in the water.

Galveston, TX -- A dozen sites along the beaches of Galveston Island, the Bolivar Peninsula and Texas City have shown elevated bacteria levels. A recent outbreak of vibrio, a flesh eating bacteria, has brought renewed focus to bacteria levels in the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay.

A beach advisory does not mean that the affected area is closed, just that beach goers need to be aware of water quality when deciding to recreate.
