Galveston College Gets National Science Foundation Grant

Galveston College received about $650,000 from the National Science Foundation.

GALVESTON, TX — The National Science Foundation recently awarded Galveston College with about $650,000 to fund Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, scholarships.

Along with the scholarships, the money will be used to kick-start a STEM honors program and a study abroad program. The first round of scholarships will be awarded this fall.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time in a STEM degree program, must be a participant in the STEM Honors Program and must demonstrate academic potential and financial need.

The money will also be used to determine whether honors and study abroad programs have an impact on retention and success rates in a community college setting.
