Galveston Confirms Human Case Of West Nile Virus
Health officials in Galveston confirmed on Tuesday the first human case of West Nile Virus in Galveston for 2018.

GALVESTON, TX -- Officials in Galveston have reported their first human case of West Nile Virus for 2018.
The woman, who has fully recovered from the mosquito-borne illness, lives on Galveston Island and made officials aware when they began mosquito abatement efforts.
Officials made this case public this week.

This is the second human case of West Nile Virus reported in the Greater Houston area this week.
On Tuesday, officials in Montgomery County confirmed that a man in his 40s had been treated for West Nile Virus, and was recovering.

Some symptoms of West Nile Virus include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Body aches
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Swollen lymph glands
- Skin rash on chest, stomach and back
The virus usually takes anywhere from three days to 3 weeks to see symptoms of the illness once someone is bitten by an infected mosquito.
