Galveston County Reports 3,500 Flu Cases, Including 2 Deaths

Free flu shots are still be administered through the Galveston County Health District at various locations.

GALVESTON, TX — This year’s flu season has been one of the worst in recent years, claiming hundreds of lives in recent months.

In Galveston County, there have been 3,500 report flu cases, with two reported death’s in 2018 from the virus.

In late-January, a 48-year old woman who had a pre-existing illness, died after contracting the flu, and in mid January, a 61-year old woman who also had a pre-existing illness died from the flu.

The flu shots are still be administered through the Galveston County Health District at various locations.

Thursday, Feb. 8

  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m.: GCHD Immunization Clinic, 9850-B Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Suite B-104, Texas City
  • 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.: College of the Mainland Technical Vocational Building, 1200 N Amburn Road, Room T1150, Texas City

Friday, Feb. 9

  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m.: GCHD Immunization Clinic, 9850-B Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Suite B-104, Texas City

Flu vaccines will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis at the following locations.
Priority for the limited supply will be given to people without insurance and those who can not afford the shot.
People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms that usually start suddenly, not gradually:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in young children than in adults.
