Galveston Judge Drops No Deal Order

A Galveston County judge dropped a controversial order banning probation and deferred ajudication for anyone who attacks a cop.

GALVESTON, TX — Judge Kerry Neves withdrew an order banning deals for deferred ajudication or probation in cases where a cop or other public servant was attacked. The decision to withdraw the order was made on Friday, July 29.

Neves, who presides over the 10th District Court in Galveston, issued the order on July 18 and within days defense attorneys began preparing a complaint against Neves for what they saw as bias towards law enforcement.

Although Neves has rescinded the order Galveston County defense attorneys, as well as the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, are still considering filing complaints against the judge.
