Galveston PD investigating assault at vigil for Orlando shooting
Galveston, TX police officers are investigating an assault that occurred during a vigil to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting.

Galveston, TX – Officers from the Galveston Police Department are investigating an assault that occurred during a vigil to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting.
At about 5:45 p.m. on June 13, officers were sent to the 3600 block of Seawall Boulevard after receiving a report that the occupants of a white truck threw a beer bottle at the vigil. The bottle stuck one of the participants in the foot, the participant was treated on the scene by EMS.

A witness followed the vehicle and provided dispatchers with a description and direction of travel. Officers stopped the truck in the 1900 block of 61st Street near Heards Lane.
Police arrested the two occupants of the vehicle, Derek Nelson, 26, and Tanner Farthing, 29. Nelson was arrested for not wearing a seatbelt while Farthing was arrested for posession of less than two ounces of marijuana.

Nelson and Farthing dropped off a third person before the police arrived, his identity still under investigation.
