Galveston Prepares For Annual Polar Plunge

GALVESTON, TX -- Special Olympics Texas will host its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Beach (201 Seawall Blvd). If you are ready to take the challenge, register here.

An entry fee of $60 for adults and $30 for youth (under 18) is required to participate in the chilly festivities. All proceeds will go to providing world-class sports training for more than 2,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Gulf Coast area.

Additional funds raised will qualify participants for various incentive prizes, including a six-pack cooler, stainless steel water bottle and a fleece blanket for each donation level they meet. (The more money raised, the more incentive one receives!)

The Galveston Polar Plunge is SOTX’s most popular fundraising event of the year across the entire state. In Jan. 2016, nearly 400 people took the Polar Plunge, helping to raise more than $45,000 for SOTX athletes in the Gulf Coast area.

If you accept this challenge, put on a costume and get ready to run into the water. Awards will be presented to the Top Fundraising Plunger, Top Fundraising Team and Best Costume.

Necessary precautions will be in place to ensure that all participants can enjoy a safe and fun experience. There will be divers, lifeguards and medical and emergency personnel on standby.

The Polar Plunge is put on by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), SOTX’s largest grass-roots fundraiser.
