Hitchcock Selling Police Cars To Ease $900K Budget Deficit
Band Aid: The City of Hitchcock announced the sale of two police cars to Hitchcock ISD, to help ease its $900K deficit for FY 2019.

HITCHCOCK, TX -- Officials in Hitchcock are doing a bit of belt-tightening, and some of it could impact public safety.
On Tuesday, city leaders voted to begin negotiating with school district officials to sell two Hitchcock Police vehicles.
According to a report in the Galveston County Daily News, Hitchcock ISD needed the police vehicles to build the foundation for its own police department.

Meanwhile, the city is struggling with a $900,000 deficit for the coming budget year, and the police department has already lost four critical police positions during a series of budget cuts in March.

Hitchcock Police Chief John Hamm told city council members that he has since lost two more officers, and other’s could go to other departments.
Police vehicles for Hitchcock run between $32,000 and $40,000, according to the Galveston County Daily News reported, hardly a dent in the budget crunch.
The details of the sale were not available.
