Hitchcock, TX Limits Game Rooms in City Limits

Hitchcock, TX passed a two-year moratorium on games room within city limits.

HITCHCOCK, TX — Call 'em what you want — eight liners, video slots, gambling machines — they are on the way out of Hitchcock.

The Hitchcock City Commission recently voted, unanimously in fact, to pass a two-year moratorium on licenses for game rooms. Not to be confused with video arcades, game rooms are the Texas term for businesses filled with video slot machines.

The moratorium means that anyone seeking to open a game room in Hitchcock won't be able to get a permit for at-least two years. If an existing game room is shut down for any reason — code violation, illegal payouts — the owner won't be able to get a new license.
