Texas City Commissioner Loses Election 2 Days After Indictment

Dee Ann Haney, who was indicted on two counts of manslaughter last week, lost her re-election bid on Saturday.

TEXAS CITY, TX — A Texas City Commissioner who was indicted last week on two counts of manslaughter, lost her bid for re-election in Saturday’s election.

Dee Ann Haney was indicted on May 3 by a Galveston County grand jury in the deaths of Hong Phuc Le, 33, and his father, Van Duoc Le, 58.

On July 3, 2017, Haney was driving her pickup I-45, when when investigators said she veered off the road, and hit the two men who'd stopped to adjust a load on their pickup on the side of the freeway.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The indictment came just two days before the election, an issue that Haney took issue with accusing Galveston County DA Jack Roady of playing politics, KPRC reported.

Phil Roberts will be sworn in next month to replace Haney.
