Traffic Stop in San Leon Leads to Drug Bust

A traffic stop in San Leon resulted in the seizure of 19.5 grams of meth.

GALVESTON, TX — A routine traffic stop in San Leon led to three arrests and the seizure of close to 20 grams of methamphetamine.

At about 8:40 p.m. on the night of Aug. 2, Galveston County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a car on 27th Street in San Leon for an alleged traffic violation. During the stop the deputies learned that one of the passengers, Jaci Toy Faye, was a convicted felon in possession of a hand gun.

When the deputies searched Faye's bag they found 9.3 grams of meth and more than $2,700 in cash. Faye, 34 of Texas City, was taken to jail, the drugs, money and gun were all seized.

The deputies let the driver Steven Russell Camp Jr., 42 of Houston, and Willard Bernard Welch Jr., 34 of Dickinson, go. It wasn't long before deputies found out that Camp and Welch came back to the scene to retrieve something that had been thrown out of the car during the stop.

Camp and Welch were observed going into a nearby trailer park. Five-oh found Camp and Welch in one of the trailers, they gave the deputies consent to search the trailer.

The search turned up another 10.2 grams of meth. Camp and Welch were also arrested.

Faye is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon as well as manufacture and delivery of a controlled, more than four grams but less than 200, and is being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Camp and Welch have each been charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and are each being held on a $250,000 bond.
