Woman Killed On 288 While Checking Damage To Her Van: Police
Police said Wanda Sanders was killed on State Highway 288 after she hit an object in the road that caused her airbag to deploy.
ALVIN, TX — A 60-year-old woman who got out of her car to assess the damage to her vehicle Friday morning was killed, police said. Investigators said Wanda Sanders was traveling northbound on State Highway 288, when she hit an object in the roadway that caused her airbag to deploy.
Police said Sanders pulled over and was in front of her vehicle to check the damage, when a Kia driven by a 19-year-old man hit the back of her van. The impact forced the van to hit her as Sanders stood in front.
The Kia, then careened into traffic and hit a Dodge pickup, according to police

Sanders died at the scene. The driver of the Kia was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Charges have not been filed.
