Coppell's Mike DeWitt Given 2017 Landry Award Coach of the Year

The Coppell coach was presented with the 2017 Landry Award Coach of the Year. The ceremony will be broadcast Friday evening on CBS 11.

COPPELL, TX — The Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Fellowship of Christian Athletes has named Mike DeWitt of Coppell High School 2017 Landry Award Coach of the Year. DeWitt was presented the award during a ceremony Dec. 11. CBS 11 will broadcast the award ceremony Friday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

“Coach DeWitt is so deserving of this award, as he truly exemplifies the values that defined legendary Coach Tom Landry, both on and off the field,” said Coppell High School Athletic Director Joe McBride. “[Mike] is a leader and role model to our players and helps shape the character of their lives beyond football.”

The Landry Award Coach of the Year, which is selected by the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership and the Landry Award voting panel, is a coach who encourages leadership, selflessness, maturity, respect and kindness.

“I am honored and grateful for this recognition,” Coach DeWitt said. "I am fortunate to work with a great staff, great kids and a great community. It is a privilege to coach and serve the players, the sport and the education profession."
