Coppell Police Blotter: Outsmart Burglars

COPPELL, TX — Each week, Coppell Patch brings you a look at the previous week's blotter. The blotter, organized by offense, location and date, allows residents to keep track of criminal activity in his or her own neighborhood. It also hints at crime trends and allows residents to avoid becoming victims.

For example, three car burglaries occurred the weekend of Feb. 16 through Feb. 18. Those who live near the areas where these burglaries were committed can take proactive steps to keep their cars untouched.

Some ways to avoid being the victim of a burglary are to make a habit of keeping the car locked at all times and parking in well-lit areas. Another measure is to remove any and all valuables from the car, even if it's in the garage.

HomeAdvisor also recommends avoiding home burglaries by improving lighting, installing security systems and making sure a house looks lived-in even when the owner is gone.
