5 Can't-Miss Mother's Day Activities To Make Her Day Special

Looking for a clever, novel or inexpensive way to let Mom know her special place in your heart? Here are a few ideas guaranteed to please.

DALLAS —Texans do everything in a big way. This year, as we slowly roll out of the pandemic and into something that looks more like the world as we remember it, it's time to say a special thanks to that lady who brought you to this dance called life.

1. There are always ways to drop some coin to let her know you care, but one of the best (and sneakiest) is to get her away from home for a few hours so that a group of expertly trained professionals can slip in and leave her place looking like elves from a Disney classic somehow cleaned it to a sparkle while she was asleep. We recommend Dallas Maids, who have years of experience doing just that.

2. If "free" sounds more like what's in your budget this year, why not take Saturday to check out the area's longest running festival of mobile gourmet foods at the 9th Annual Frisco StrEATS Festival? Organized by the Rail District Merchants Association, the food truck fest attracts the best eats from throughout the metroplex and features live music, children's activities, wine gardens and craft beers. The atmosphere is Texas Picnic, so leashed pets, lawn chairs and blankets are all welcome. What's more, it's also a benefit you can feel good about, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County and Frisco Family Services charity organizations. The event runs all day Saturday, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

3. How about of Southern charm, Texas style? Check out the ArtCentre of Plano Mother's Day Garden Party, which runs Saturday from 3-5 p.m. It should be a chill experience on a warm afternoon perfect for friends and family. You'll have an opportunity to see and buy one-of-a-kind pieces from local artists, with raffle baskets on hand and a live auction of a Kelly Hrad painting. The party takes place at ArtCentre of Plano, at 902 East 16th Street.

4. If you're looking to keep your celebrations indoors, you should definitely consider the 6th Annual Mavs Ball: House Party Edition Saturday from 7-9 p.m. The fundraiser is annual, but this is the Mavs' first (and perhaps only) virtual extravaganza . It too supports a worthy cause (in this case, strengthening community through empowering kids, women, and families at risk), and includes the opportunity to bid on custom art pieces, live meet-and-greets, autographed memorabilia and even Mav player-designed footwear. There'll be live music on hand courtesy of Ghost-Note and DJ She Real. Purchase tickets for the event (staged at Dallas Virtual Events) here.

5. If your idea of Mother's Day always includes a drive out into the country, then get your motor running and head out on the highway for Lavender Ridge Farms Mother's Day Weekend. You can share a leisurely lunch at the cafe, enjoy the weekend specials and take a tour of the pop-up wine shop highlighting Deschain Cellars. The event runs both Saturday and Sunday, and reservations are highly recommended. Lavender Ridge is located at 2391 County Road 178 in Gainesville.
