The festivities kicked off with a neighborhood parade to commemorate the event. The Fort Worth Police Department, Ballet Folklorico, Fairmount Pride, District 9 Councilmember Elizabeth Beck, neighborhood residents and multiple Elvis Presley impersonators joined the fun. And don’t worry, the Fairmount Trash Pirates were on hand to make sure all the litter was cleaned up after the celebration.
After the parade, visitors were invited to participate in the home tour on both Saturday and Sunday. The tour started at SinNaCa Studios where Fairmount neighborhood volunteers were on hand at the welcome pavilion to take care of ticket sales and provide a map to attendees.

This year’s event was an outdoor “walk and roll” history tour so the neighborhood could provide a safe environment and still carry on in person. However, visitors were still able to enjoy the inside of Southside Preservation Hall. During the tour, eight of the homes held porch story times complete with live actors and pictures telling the historic tale of the house. The other eight homes provided beautiful garden tours.
“This Home Tour was different from years past, but the increase in the number of homes and the kinds of stories that were shared enabled for perhaps a greater community feel than years past, and it was wonderful to see so many people who were out celebrating their first post-COVID event,” said Fairmount Neighborhood Association President David Weuste.
The Fairmount neighborhood and more than 100 home tour volunteers spent countless hours planning, carrying on this tradition and creating an experience rich in architecture highlighting the craftsmanship of the bungalow-style homes and the historic community.
“Last year’s virtual event was a great way to keep the tradition going, but it was wonderful to be back in person and meeting neighbors and visitors alike. We are already excited to invite you to our 40th tour next year as we return to Mother’s Day Weekend and inside homes. It should be great,” Weuste said.
The home tour proceeds benefit the Fairmount Neighborhood Association’s mission to preserve, restore and maintain the neighborhood and surrounding historic district. Past projects for the neighborhood include installing period-style streetlights, replacing signage, enhancing landscaping and supporting teachers and students at nearby schools. Not only does this event celebrate the community, but it builds on the efforts of residents to protect the neighborhood for years to come.
