With more than 15,000 animals coming into the shelter each year, providing a comfortable and safe environment for them while they wait to be adopted is a priority. Studies have shown that a day out of the shelter environment, or even one night away, can drastically decrease stress in a shelter dog and increase their adoptability.
The Out & About program provides an opportunity for anyone to select a dog and spend some time with them. To get involved, visit one of the two adoption campuses during operating hours, sign in, work with a staff member to choose one of the preselected dogs and go have fun – it’s as simple as that.

The shelter provides a map of dog-friendly places to visit around the city. All dogs will be sent with a collar/harness and leash. You’ll also receive a foster dog report card. Any information you can provide will help shelter staff match fosters with the best adoptive family. Photos of the foster dog are encouraged and appreciated.
All dogs available for the program have been spayed/neutered and microchipped and are current on their vaccinations.
