Dallas Beware: Plastic-Tainted Beef Sent To Schools

Heads up Dallas parents — A nationwide recall has been issued for 20,000 pounds of beef that could be contaminated with soft, purple plastic. And the tainted meat was shipped to schools.

The ready-to-eat patties were produced Nov. 30 by AdvancePierre Foods, which has a protein facility in Enid, Oklahoma. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday it is concerned the flame-broiled patties could be in peoples’ freezers.

The meat in question comes in 14.06-pound cases. The cases contain three bags with 30 pieces each for a total of 90 portions of “CN FULLY COOKED FLAMEBROILED BEEF PATTIES CARAMEL COLOR ADDED,” the recall notice said. The case code is 155-525-0 and the package code is 8334.

The recalled products are labeled with the establishment number “EST. 2260E” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

While no individual states are listed, the USDA said the items were shipped to food service locations nationwide.

“While the product was distributed to schools, it resulted from a commercial sale and was not part of food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program,” the recall notice said.

Officials learned of the tainted beef Monday after two consumers found purple plastic in the product. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries or adverse reactions.

If you have the tainted beef, throw it out or return it to the store.
