A Dallas Tradition Returns: Welcome Back The Texas State Fair

The pandemic caused the cancellation of last year's state fair. But vaccinations and decreasing case numbers will permit the fair to resume.

After being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the State Fair of Texas is returning in 2021, with old traditions and new safety protocols.

DALLAS, TX —Cancellation of the 2020 Texas State Fair meant there had to be a once-in-a-lifetime event taking place. But now with the pandemic receding, the tradition is set to return "in all its Lone Star Glory," according to senior vice president of public relations for the State Fair of Texas Karissa Condoianis.

The Texas State Fair takes place this year from Sept. 24 until Oct. 17 in Dallas' Fair Park. There, you can expect all the sensory thrills that have made the event a mainstay of family fun for the past 135 years. There'll be games on the midway, piping hot corn dogs, and a parade of shiny autos on display at the Texas Auto Show.

In its month-long run, some 2.5 million visitors typically flock to the park. State Fair officials say that this year, they're following CDC guidelines as well as recommendations from other government agencies and health protocols will be made public before the fair kicks off.

The state fair is actually a nonprofit organization providing millions in scholarships every year to Texans seeking higher education. Because of last year's COVID-19 crisis, The Dallas Morning News reports that the fair saw its earnings shrink from $66 million to $4 million.

According to a statement from Mitchell Glieber, President of the State Fair of Texas, the fair will be up and running in 2o21, and the organization is "excited to make up for lost time and help families and friends from all walks of life reconnect again, while making new memories to last a lifetime."
