Damage In Abilene, Ballinger Amid Reported Tornadoes

The city of Abilene is in the process of drafting a disaster declaration after severe weather moved through the area Saturday morning.

ABILENE, TX — There are reports of damage in Abilene and Ballinger after reports of tornadoes and severe weather that moved through the area Saturday morning.

The city of Abilene is in the process of drafting a disaster declaration. According to Abilene city officials, the majority of the structural damage is on the city's west side stretching from Corsicana to Willis and Hartford/South 14th to South 1st.

Officials said that the National Weather Service is classifying the weather in Abliene as "straight line wind."

Preliminary information from the National Weather Service shows that there are reports of several tornadoes Saturday morning that hit near Ballinger, located about an hour south of Abilene.

Authorities in Abilene said they have not received any reports of injuries or fatalities at this point.
They are also reminding residents to consider any downed power lines active and dangerous and to stay indoors until the weather has passed.

In Ballinger, officials are asking residents not to drive around and look at damage. Officials there are still in the process of blocking roads and clearing debris.
