Meet Kevin Phinney, Our New Dallas Field Editor
Phinney was born in Brooklyn, NY, but raised in El Paso, schooled at Texas Tech and worked in Austin media for more than 20 years

Howdy Dallas, Texas!
My name is Kevin Phinney and I am your new Patch editor for all things Dallas-centric. That means that every day on the Dallas Patch, you can count on local news and featured from me and the rest of our Patch team. And the goal we share is to keep you connected to the thriving community we love and abreast of all the latest developments.
I grew up in El Paso, Texas — where the Tex-Mex food in our school cafeteria was better than most of the Mexican fare you can find out of state. My degree comes from St. Edward's University in Austin, a small Catholic college that's the sister school to Notre Dame.

As a journalist, I've worked in Austin, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Seattle and New York City. For ten years, I was one of the two hosts of "Kevin & Kevin in the Morning" on KGSR-FM in Austin, which is now known as Austin City Limits Radio. I'm also the author of a history book tracking race relations in America over 400 years through music. It's called "Souled American: How Black Music Transformed White Culture," and its often used in colleges for help teaching ethnomusicology.

When I am not writing, I'm singing. When I'm not singing, I'm at the gym. When I'm not doing any of those, I'm hunting either margaritas or barbecue.
