The grand opening falls on owner Carol Nguyen’s birthday and coincides with Vietnam’s Mother’s Day celebration, also known as the Vu Lan festival.

Ngon is named after Nguyen’s mother, and the restaurant’s opening is a way to show her love, respect and appreciation. All mothers will be honored on the opening day with red and white roses. In Vietnam, red roses symbolize living mothers, and white roses symbolize those who have died.

Other opening events include a lion dance at 5 p.m. and a drawing for prizes throughout the day. On Sept. 10, Ngon will partner with woman-owned business Bar and Garden for a wine tasting.
