Texas House 100 Special Runoff Election Results

Voters in Texas cast their ballots Tuesday in the special runoff election for State House district 100.

Democrat Lorraine Birabil is the projected winner in the special election for Texas State House district 100, unofficial voting results show.

Birabil was running against James Armstrong III, also a Democrat. Unofficial final voting results from Dallas County show Birabil with 66.28 percent of the vote and Armstrong with 33.72 percent of the vote.

The race went to a runoff after the Nov.5 general election did not result with a candidate leading with a clear majority. The special election was called to fill the seat vacated by Eric Johnson after he was elected mayor of Dallas.

Voters in two other house districts — 28 and 148 — also cast votes in special runoff elections on Tuesday. Both districts are in the Houston area with district 28 considered to be one that Democrats could flip in their quest to take the Texas State House in 2020. However, Republican Gary Gates prevailed in that race over his Democratic challenger Elizabeth "Eliz" Markowitz. In district 148, Democrat Anna Eastman won over Republican Luis La Rotta.

Just under 2,500 votes were cast in Tuesday's special election.
