Cowboys Select Boise State Linebacker In NFL Draft

ARLINGTON, TX - The Dallas Cowboys, who are hosting the NFL draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, selected Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch with the 19th overall pick in the draft.

The Cowboys have 10 draft picks to fill needs at various positions, including receiver and defensive tackle.

Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley had been mentioned in the mock drafts as a possible selection for the Cowboys. In April, receiver Dez Bryant ended his eight-year run in Dallas when the Cowboys released him.

Some mock drafts have the Cowboys taking a receiver in the second round with Anthony Miller of Memphis mentioned as a possibility.

The draft opened with one of the deepest quarterback classes in years, which was good news for the Cleveland Browns, who selected Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick.

After Thursday's first round, the draft resumes Friday for rounds 2-3, and then again on Saturday.
