Bomb Threat Cleared At Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has cleared its active bomb threat after Austin police's bomb squad scanned its baggage claim area.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has cleared its active bomb threat after Austin police's bomb squad scanned its baggage claim area.

At 10:35 a.m. Friday, airport authorities said the bomb threat was cleared by authorities and the airport could return to normal operations.

An Austin-Bergstrom official told Patch Friday morning the bomb threat was issued after a bomb detecting canine alerted officials of an unattended bag near baggage carousel one.

By 9:52 a.m., airport officials alerted the community that police were responding to an active bomb threat in baggage carousel one.

While baggage carousel one was cordoned off, passengers were still able to pick up their bags in baggage claim. Traffic on the airport's lower level roadway was also immediately diverted to the upper level area.

At this time, vehicular traffic has returned to both the airport's upper-level and lower-level roadways now that the threat has been cleared.

The bomb threat comes after airport officials report busy wait times at security checkpoints on Friday. Many passengers are encouraged to arrive at least 2.5 hours earlier than their scheduled departure, authorities said.
