Austin Parks Remain Closed Amid Freeze, Cemetery Openings Delayed

All year-round city pools, tennis centers, golf courses and the Zilker Botanical Garden shut down, and cemetery gate openings are delayed.

AUSTIN, TX — The city's recreational facilities will continue to be closed and the opening of cemetery gates may be delayed in the coming days until freezing temperatures subside, officials said Friday.

The Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) is keeping year-round city pools, tennis centers, golf courses and the Zilker Botanical Garden closed, officials wrote in an advisory. Moreover, cemetery gates may have delayed openings, officials added. If scheduled committal services, interments, or gate openings are not feasible due to weather conditions, a funeral home/family will be notified and asked to reschedule at no additional charge, officials advised.

"PARD would like to remind park patrons to be cautious when visiting icy parks, cemeteries, or trails," officials wrote. "Winter conditions can pose weather related hazards including accumulated ice and snow that impacts trees."

Officials said they will continue to monitor weather conditions over the next several days, and will reopen facilities as conditions allow.
Information on PARD facility closures is available in the PARD Facilities Closures portal, and will also be posted to PARD's Facebook and Twitter accounts (@AustinCityParks).
