Austin PD Will Enforce DWI Laws 4th Of July Weekend

AUSTIN, TX —If you drink and drive this Fourth of July weekend, expect to get pulled over by Austin police.
The Austin Police Department will be conducting a DWI No Refusal Initiative beginning each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day from July 1-4, authorities said Thursday.
Officials said this initiative is an effort to enforce DWI laws, keep the public safe by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions, and to apply for blood search warrants on suspects who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law.

This initiative will also focus on the highways and high-speed roadways, authorities said
"The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation Department are continuously focused on preventing lives from being lost on the streets, highways and waterways of Austin," police said. "The department is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement."

Austin police isn't the only agency to enforce DWI laws this holiday weekend. Cedar Park police will also hand out tickets to individuals who are caught drinking and driving throughout the weekend.
