Austin Police Make 22 DWI Arrests 4th Of July Weekend

Police made 22 DWI arrests over the Fourth of July weekend during its No Refusal Initiative, authorities said Tuesday.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin police made 22 DWI arrests over the Fourth of July weekend during its No Refusal Initiative, authorities said Tuesday.

Out of the 22 arrests made, eight were blood search warrants, 10 were consent breath samples and four were consent blood samples, officials said.

Out of the 10 consent breath samples, eight had a blood alcohol level over .15.

Out of the total arrests made, two were charged with a Class A misdemeanor DWI with prior convictions and two were charged with felony DWI (two or more prior convictions).

None were charged with felony DWI Child Passenger, Intoxication Assault or Intoxication Manslaughter charges, authorities said.

"The Austin Police Department and Austin Transportation Department are continuously focused on preventing lives from being lost on the streets, highways and waterways of Austin," officials said. "The department is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement."
