AUSTIN, TX — By now, it's widely known that St. Valentine's Day is largely a construct of the greeting card companies and flower peddlers intent on bolstering their sales. But to ignore this day of romance by doing nothing for one's significant other is to prepare oneself for landing in the doghouse.

To help prevent this from happening, Patch has assembled a dining guide showcasing culinary offerings tailor-made for couples on an amorous day. Many of the city's finest restaurants are pulling out all the stops to create the ideal environment to showcase love and romance.

We've done our part in assembling some of the best culinary offerings. Those choosing to ignore the day are on their own.

ABA

Austin Mediterranean restaurant Aba is offering special Valentine's Day meals available now to order in advance for delivery and carry-out at their location at Music Lane on South Congress. AUSTIN FOOD & WINE ALLIANCE

While Valentine’s Day will be a little different this year, residents can still spoil their loved ones with delectable treats. In support of local restaurants impacted by the pandemic, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance will bring back its Citywide Sugar High online bake sale on Feb. 14.

"What better way to play Cupid than ordering sweet and savory goodies crafted by Austin’s best bakers and pastry chefs?" organizers wrote in an advisory. "The delectable boxes are ideal gifts for significant others, friends, family, and anyone else who needs a little love."

The curated bites include pies, cookies, cakes, and more from local favorites Bakery Lorraine, Bento Picnic, Cold Ones Pops, Contigo, Cookbook Bakery, El Alma Café y Cantina, Foreign & Domestic, Garbo’s, Julie Myrtille Bakery, Killa Wasi, Lola’s Donuts, Sara's Sweets, SRSLY Chocolate, and Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop. The sale also showcases new local concepts including Abby Jane Bakeshop, Chicken Salad Shoppe, and Store House Market & Eatery.

The sweet and savory selections are available for complimentary pickup at Last Straw at 914 East Sixth Street, Suite C on Feb. Supporters also can opt for Austin delivery with a $10 fee benefiting service industry workers affected by the pandemic. Each box will also include a $5 donation to AFWA to help the nonprofit continue its mission of supporting the Central Texas community through its culinary innovation grants and educational programs.

This Valentine’s Day weekend, The Capital Grille is offering an elegant three-course takeout dinner for two, featuring starters of Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella and Field Green Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette, followed by an entrée of Hand-Cut Filet Mignon and Butter Poached Lobster Tails. The recently launched Austin cookie company from Chef Lorin Peters, Cookie Rich, is celebrating Valentine’s Day by offering a limited-time flavor, Dark Chocolate Dipped + Gold Dusted Strawberry Cheesecake, now available for pre-order. Valentine’s Day orders can be placed by scheduling ahead for pick-up or delivery on dates between Feb. 10 – 14 by clicking here.

Locals can ‘treat’ their special someone (or themselves, their coworkers or friends) to the Dark Chocolate Dipped + Gold Dusted Strawberry Cheesecake delights, which can be ordered by the dozen or half and half which includes six of the Valentines cookies and six of their most popular flavors. They are only available through Valentine’s Day. Peters has created the limited-release bite-size treat from two curvy, Strawberry cookies half dipped in dark chocolate dusted with edible gold. The cookies are sealed together with a delectable whipped cream cheese filling and a dollop of strawberry jam in the center. The special Valentine’s Day cookies are $50 per dozen and $45 for the half and half, and limited quantities are available.

Cookie Rich’s standard menu is also available for Valentine’s Day gifts or as a gorgeous take-along to a “Galentine’s Day” gathering. With the cookies rounding out at about 110 calories, they make for a less-guilty indulgence that’s definitely worth it.

Dripping Springs Chocolate Co. Dripping Springs Chocolate Co specializes in bean-to-bar craft chocolate bars made with ethically sourced cocoa beans. The family-owned business is helmed by Tracey & Bob Wilson who launched the business in 2016, starting with learning to make chocolate and selling at local farmers’ markets to eventually opening a factory store, online store, and selling in 25 retailers in Central Texas. While on a mission trip to Nicaragua years ago, the family was compelled to seek out ways to support the local community. After much research, the Wilsons decided to work with cacao farmers to source and purchase their product at a fair price, and thus Dripping Springs Chocolate Co was born.

Hestia played a key role in the hearth, showcasing its importance in the social, religious and political life of ancient Greece. The hearth was essential for warmth, food preparation and the completion of sacrificial offerings to deities. Hearth will surely be invoked at the namesake eatery on St. Valentine's while food preparation surely will maintain its year-round, top quality level but there will be no sacrificial offerings to be had. And two out of three ain't bad.

Stories Fine Dining Establishment at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa is providing a three-course, prix-fixe menu for the holiday. The menu will include everything with tuna tartare served in a buttery tart shell and pistachio-crusted rack of lamb to a house-made white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. The special menu will be available on Saturday, Feb. 13 between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and is open to both locals and resort guests. In addition to the holiday dining experience, the resort is an ideal destination for a socially distanced Valentine’s Day getaway. The resort features everything from horseback rides throughout the Loblolly Forest to couples’ treatments at Spa Django.

Basque in the love, amorous people. Kalimotzo is a delightful spot in downtown Austin where people can often be seen enjoying the vibrant space over cocktails with friends. Come Valentine's Day, the place overlooking Shoal Creek will be dripping with amorous vibes and flowing with its renowned curated Spanish wine list.

For food also is a universal language, and the culinary feast before you and your life partner will make emotions abundantly clear.

You won't have to fish for compliments after treating your loved one to a Valentine’s Seafood Chirashi, a limited-time premium assortment good until Feb. 12 for dine-in and takeout orders. The cognoscenti know of the single location of Kura Sushi, of which there are 28 other restaurant locations across the U.S. The restaurant offers savory, authentic Japanese dishes made with high-quality ingredients. "It is our philosophy and ongoing promise to prepare food using natural, premium ingredients with no additives or artificial preservatives," restaurant operators wrote in an advisory.
