Austin Water Lifts Boil Water Advisory To All Customers

The city utility company has lifted its boil water advisory for all customers on Tuesday. Here's what you need to know.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Water has lifted its boil water advisory for all customers on Tuesday, officials said.

At 11:46 a.m. Tuesday, the utility provider announced in a Twitter post customers no longer need to boil water used for drinking, cooking, and making ice.

The boil water notice was issued for the city of Austin last week as freezing temperatures ravaged the state during Winter Storm Uri.

Austin Water states in a Twitter thread water quality testing submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has confirmed that tap water meets all regulatory standards and is safe for human consumption.

Residential customers may return to regular indoor water use; however, emergency mandatory water-use restrictions remain in place until further notice.

These restrictions include not using water for irrigation, washing vehicles (including commercial car wash facilities), washing pavements or other surfaces, adding water to pools or spas, conducting foundation watering and operating an ornamental fountain/pond other than to support aquatic life.

The social media post states these restrictions are necessary to ensure that adequate water supply is available to meet customers needs while the system returns to normal operations.

In a statement, Austin City Manager Spencer Cronk urged residents to continue conserving water while the utility provider continued to work on restoring service to all its customers.

“I want to recognize and thank the Austin community for answering the call for deep reductions in water use during this extreme deep freeze,” Cronk said. “It is through your actions that Austin Water has been able to stabilize and improve water service for customers across the city.”
