CelebrASIA Is A Virtual Celebration Of Diversity And Culture

The AARC annual event honors Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May, and Austin's multifaceted Asian Pacific American identities.

AUSTIN, TX—Austin area friends and neighbors are invited to take part in a virtual celebration of diversity, history and culture with CelebrASIA —the annual signature event of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department's Asian American Resource Center (AARC) honoring Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May.

The theme to this year's event is "Uniting Cultures" and offers a glimpse into the diverse and multifaceted Asian Pacific American identities, histories and cultures. “Under this theme of ‘Uniting Cultures,’ we hope to show solidarity with the different communities that fall under ‘Asian Pacific American’ but also highlight the shared histories and struggles with other communities of color,” said Sona Shah, Culture & Arts Education Manager at the AARC.

The virtual event kicks off Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m., and you can watch this year’s CelebrASIA livestream on the AARC’s Facebook as well as Austin Parks and Recreation’s Facebook and YouTube. Participants may also RSVP via the Facebook event page to stay up to date. CelebrASIA will feature a live virtual game show complete with a top prize awarded that includes a basket of goodies from local businesses. There will also be a virtual fashion show and musical performances, and more! For more information, visit AustinTexas.gov/AARC
