Central Texas Food Bank Sets December Food Distribution Events

AUSTIN, TX — The Central Texas Food Bank on Monday announced food distribution events in December for those facing food insecurity amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Food bank officials also seeks volunteers to assist with the scheduled events along with sorting in the warehouse. Anyone interested in volunteering to support the Food Bank at this critical time should visit the Food Bank’s website, centraltexasfoodbank.org, and click on “Volunteer” to sign up.

  • Saturday, Dec. 5: Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Dr., 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Thursday, Dec. 10: Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Lane, 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Saturday, Dec. 12: Lehman High School, 1700 Lehman Rd., Kyle, Texas, from 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Monday, Dec. 21: Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Dr., from 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 29: Del Valle High School, 5201 Ross Rd., Del Valle, Texas, from 9 a.m. until noon.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 30: Nelson Field, 7105 Berkman Dr., 9 a.m. until noon.

At these special food distributions, the Central Texas Food Bank will distribute free food to help those who are facing increased food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. These food distributions are primarily designed as drive-through events. However, food bank officials noted, no one in need of food will be turned away. Attendees will receive an assortment of food items which will vary, depending on available supplies.

Prior to driving through, recipients are requested to make appropriate space in their trunk or hatch.

WHY: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Texas Food Bank continues to meet the needs of those facing hunger. In addition to these special distributions, Central Texans can also access food through our network of partner pantries and mobile food pantry distributions throughout Central Texas. Once you find the distribution site nearest you, please call them to confirm their hours of operation since things are changing rapidly. You can also call 2-1-1 for the latest information.

"The Food Bank stands ready to help all Central Texans affected by the pandemic, but we’ve seen demand for our services skyrocket recently, severely straining our resources," food bank officials wrote. "So if you’re able to help, we need monetary donations. Donate via centraltexasfoodbank.org.
