Community Engagement Requested For Austin Planning Initiative
The City invites the area residents to lend their input for The Palm District Planning Initiative, focusing on a corridor along east Austin.
AUSTIN, TX—The Austin community is invited to take part in offering their input for the Palm District Planning Initiative, a planning process to guide the future of one of downtown Austin's most iconic, and fastest-growing districts. The City of Austin made the May 3 announcement to kick off the planning process and welcome community members to register for virtual meetings, complete surveys to share input an discover other ways to stay informed and engaged to help develop a unified vision to inform the final Palm District Area Plan.
The Palm District planning process will work to develop a focused plan for a sector of downtown Austin including attractions and points of interest such as Waller Creek, Red River Cultural District, Palm School, Rainey Street, the Emma S. Barrientos - Mexican American Cultural Center, and the Convention Center.
“The [Palm] area is a dynamic gateway for visitors, a cultural touchstone for Austin's Mexican American community, and a window into Austin’s past,” said Assistant City Manager Rodney Gonzales, Executive Lead for the project. “As Austin continues to rapidly evolve, our goal is to create a space where old memories are honored and new memories are made. We have a unique opportunity to responsibly and respectfully guide growth of such an iconic area for visitors and long-time Austinites alike.”
