AUSTIN, TX — Austin ISD will offer three days of district wide rapid testing of the coronavirus for all on-campus students and staff members prior to returning from a weeklong period of remote learning that began on Monday, officials said.

District officials announced a period of remote learning starting Monday through Friday, Dec. 4, in an effort to help blunt the spread of illness. In tandem, testing for the virus starting Wednesday will be offered as a further mitigating step, officials said.

"Testing is strongly recommended for those that are showing COVID-19 symptoms, those that have had close contact with someone that is positive or showing symptoms for COVID-19, and those that recently traveled for the holidays," Austin ISD Director of Health Alexandra Copeland said in a letter to parents and guardians.
