CVS Combining Guadalupe Street Stores Into One 2-Story Version
The stores on Guadalupe Streets will be closed to make way for a new location at the site of a former Wells Fargo location.

AUSTIN, TX — The longstanding CVS store at Guadalupe and 30th streets is slated for imminent closure as the parent company proceeds on combining two sites into a single 2-story site along The Drag, Patch has learned.
Matt Blanchette, the manager for retail communications for CVS Pharmacy, confirmed on Monday that the stores at 2927 Guadalupe St. and 2202 Guadalupe St. will be combined into a one, two-story alternative slated to open in fall 2021.
Although Blanchette did not disclose the exact location of the planned, two-story store, Patch has learned it will be situated at the site where a shuttered Wells Fargo Bank branch now stands at 2402 Guadalupe St. — just across from the University of Texas at Austin campus. The spokesperson would only confirm the new location is at the corner of 24th and Guadalupe streets.

Both stores now slated for closure have been longtime neighborhood fixtures. In a response to questions from Patch, Blanchette said the store at 2222 Guadalupe St. has been open for nearly 27 years while the one at 2027 Guadalupe St. has operated for nearly 23 years.
It's unclear if the merger of stores will result in any layoffs spurred by employment redundancies.

Another CVS pharmacy is located inside a Target store at 2025 Guadalupe St. that opened in 2017, across the street from the two-story store planned for a spring opening. Another company spokesperson previously told Patch there were no plans to consolidate that site into another location.
The CVS store at 2927 Guadalupe St. has been a longtime fixture there. Originally opened 24 hours, the store later shortened its hours to midnight during the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic. The store offers grocery store items as well as a pharmacy that closes daily at 8 p.m.
